5 Day Uganda primate safari -Uganda is the primate capital of the world. The 24 primate species can be encountered on any Uganda safari. This 5 Day Uganda primate safari combines the 2 prominent primate species in Uganda, Gorillas and Chimpanzees. On this Uganda safari, we will go gorilla trekking in the lush scenic forest of Bwindi national park and Kibale forest for the chimpanzee trekking.
Other primates to be encountered on this Uganda primate safari include; Grey cheeked Mangabeys, white and back colobus monkeys, Phoestes, Red-Colobus and the Blue tailed and the Red-tailed monkeys and many more. 5 Day Uganda primate safari Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Depart for Kibale national park
Following an early start, we will embark on our journey to Kibale forest national park. We shall make a lunch stop in Mubende. We will continue to Kibale and check into our lodge. Relax and enjoy the views and sounds of the forest.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking
After an early breakfast, we will head to the park headquarters for a briefing in preparation of our Chimpanzee trekking. The trekking is done in the well-worn trails of the Kibale forest. During the trek the guides will give you information about the primates as you watch them swing across the branches of the trees.
Apart from the chimpanzees, other primates like the Grey checked mangabeys, white and black colobus, blue tailed monkeys can be seen during the trek. The chimpanzee trekking takes half a day. You will be amazed as you watch these primates interact with each other. We will return to the lodge for lunch and a relaxing afternoon.
In the evening, we will have an evening nature walk in the Bigodi wetlands. Here, the area is rich in bird life and rare species like the Great turaco can be seen. We will return to the lodge and retire for the evening.
Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi
We will have an early breakfast, check out of the lodge and head for Bwindi impenetrable forest. This scenic drives allows us to enjoy the craver lakes in Fort portal and the views of Mount Rwenzori, commonly known as the mountains of the moon. We will drive through the Ishasha sector, famous for its tree climbing lions. On arrival in Bwindi, we will check into the lodge and relax with the views of the impenetrable forest.
Day 4; Gorilla Trekking
After a warm breakfast, we shall head to the park headquarters for the briefing. Here, we are taken through the rules and regulations of gorilla trekking. This helps us to have a smooth and memorable gorilla trekking experience. We will grouped and allocated gorilla families to trek. Then off we will go.
The winding trek into the lush green forest is a thrilling experience. We will experience the sounds and smell of the forest during the search of these gentle giants. Upon making contact, we will have an hour with the gorilla families. We will take as many pictures as possible, get to experience their usual life style and be amazed at the great apes. The trek lasts between 2-8 hours. We will return to the lodge.
Later in the evening, we will venture out into the community to interact with the indigenous people, the Batwa. Here, we will get to experience their daily lives, food, living and their cultures. We will return to the lodge for an overnight stay.
Day 5: Depart for Kampala
After a restful evening, we will check out of the lodge and depart for Kampala. We will enjoy the scenic views of the forest and terraced hills. At the edge of the forest, we will have the chance of seeing more primates like L’hoest’s monkeys, black and white colobus and baboons.
We will make a stopover for lunch at Igongo cultural center and at the equator for some photos and hemispheric experiment. On arrival in Kampala, the guide will drop you at your hotel or the airport in time for your flight. This will mark the end of your 5 Day Uganda primate safari.
