7 Day Primate and wildlife safari Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Murchison falls and rhino trekking
Early in the morning, we will depart Kampala for Murchison falls. A quick stop over for breakfast at Kabalega diner will ensure we are ready for the rhino trekking. In Uganda, Rhino trekking is only undertaken at Zziwa rhino sanctuary. It is done on foot. Yes. You will trek through the wilderness to see the different rhino families.
After the trekking, we will continue and enter Murchison falls national park through Masindi town. We will check into our lodge and having a relaxing safari evening.
Day 2: Game drive and Boat cruise:
Following an early breakfast, we will head onto the savanna plains of Murchison falls for an early game drive. This drive will give us the opportunity to see the wildlife up-close. On this drive, we hope to see wildlife like lions, giraffes, elephants, leopards, hyenas, buffalo, hippos, kobs, oribi, hartebeest and so much. We will see a lot of bird species like Egyptian geese, woodland kingfisher, ground horn bill and so many more. This drive lasts up to 4 hours. We will return to the lodge for an early lunch.
We will head out for the afternoon boat cruise after our early lunch. The boat cruise is launched at the Parra landing site and it takes you to the bottom of the falls. This cruise is relaxing but still a thrilling adventure. More wildlife like hippos, elephants, crocodiles can be seen on this cruise. More bird species can be spotted at the banks of the river.
At the bottom of the falls, you will disembark and hike along the Murchison falls to the very top. This provides breathtaking views of the Murchison and Uhuru falls. This hike takes up to 45 minutes. At the top, you will experience the actual force of the falls. The spray created by the force of the Nile going through the 7 meter gap is spectacular. You will spend some time for photos and exploration of the falls.
The guide will pick you from the top of the falls and transfer you to the lodge for the night.
Day 3: Transfer to Kibale.
We will have a very early breakfast, check out of the lodge and depart for Kibale forest national park. We will enjoy the scenic drive along the Albertine rift, overlooking the lake. We will make a stop in Hoima before proceeding to Kibale national park. On arrival, we will check into the lodge and relax for the evening.
Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking.
After a restful evening, we will head out to the headquarters for a briefing. We will then proceed into the forest in search for the chimpanzees. Along the well-worn trails, we will be able to see the chimpanzees as they go about their business. Feeding, grooming and playing are some of the activities they do throughout their days. We will get the opportunities to see more primates like grey checked mangabeys, black and white colobus, red tailed monkeys and many more. This chimpanzee trekking safari lasts half a day. We will return to the lodge for the afternoon.
In the evening, we will venture out to the Bigodi wetlands for a nature walk. On this walk, we hope to see plenty of bird species like the great Turaco. We will later return to the lodge for the evening.
Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi.
On this day of this 7 Day Primate and wildlife safari, we will depart Kibale national park and head for Bwindi impenetrable forest. The scenic drive through the tea plantations is epic. The crater lakes in Fort portal offer amazing viewing. The Rwenzori Mountains can be seen on your drive to Kasese. This drive will take us through the Ishasha sector, famous for the tree climbing lions. On arrival, we will check into the lodge, relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of the forest.
Day 6: Gorilla trekking.
Gorilla trekking is one of the most thrilling safari activity. After an early morning briefing at the park headquarters, we will be grouped and allocated gorilla families to trek. With a walking stick in hand, we will venture into the forest in search of the mountain gorillas. The trek through the thick lush forest offers bird sightings and amazing sounds ensuring a remarkable Uganda safari experience.
On seeing the gorillas, you will amazed and thrilled at the same time. Their size and agility is both mind blowing and amazing. For an hour, you will get to experience their social life style. Their eating, playing and going about their lives. Gorilla trekking lasts between 2-8 hours depending on the location of the gorilla families.
We will return to the lodge and relax. We will have an option of interacting with the indigenous people, the Batwa, in the evening. We shall get to learn more about their culture, music and food. We shall retire to the lodge for the evening and overnight stay.
Day 7: Departure to Kampala.
On the last day of this 7 Day Primate and wildlife safari, we will leave Bwindi impenetrable national park, through the scenic hills of Kabale. We will stop at Igongo cultural center for lunch and equator for some photos. On arrival in Kampala, the guide will drop you at the hotel or the airport in time for your flight. This will mark the end of your 7 Day Primate and wildlife safari
