7 Days Uganda Elgon mountaineering Safari takes you on a hiking adventure on Mount Elgon, exploration of Sipi falls and white water rafting in Jinja. Mount Elgon is located in eastern Uganda on the border of Uganda and Kenya. Standing at 4,321m, it is the second highest mountain in Uganda and 8th in Africa. On this 7 Days Uganda Elgon mountaineering Safari, we will be summiting the highest peak, the Wagagai peak. This Uganda hiking safari will reveal Uganda’s beautiful landscape, primates on the mountain, elephants, and antelopes and get the thrill of rafting on the Nile.
7 Days Uganda Elgon mountaineering Safari Highlights

7 Days Uganda Elgon mountaineering Safari Itinerary
Day 1- Transfer to Mbale – Budadiri Tourism center
On the morning of your 7 Days Uganda Elgon mountaineering Safari, a guide will pick you up from your hotel and you set off on your Uganda hiking safari. The drive through Jinja to Mbale is scenic and offers views of sugar cane plantations, tea plantations and the Mabira forest. We will make a stop on Jinja before proceeding to Mbale where we will check into our lodge and spend the night.
Day 2- From Budadiri to Sasa Camp (2.900m)
After an early breakfast, we will start our hike at Budadiri (1250m). Our porters, guides and all our supplies for the hike will be ready and we will set off on the Sasa trail. This trail offers amazing views of the landscapes. The Sasa trail will lead us to the Sasa river camp where we will spend the night. The trail is 8km longs and on that day you will cover an altitude of 1700m. The hike will take between 7-8 hours. We shall enjoy the views of the sunset as we relax from the day’s hike on this Uganda safari tour.
Day 3- From Sasa camp to Mude Camp (3.500m).
The chefs will prepare a healthy breakfast before we depart on the second day of this hike. Here, we will leave Sasa river camp and head for Mude camp. This hike will take us through the beautiful forests on the mountain. The sounds of birds will create beautiful memories as you hike. Our destination will be Mude Cave campsite. This is at 3500m and it’s our destination for the night. The day’s hike will be between 4-5 hours and we will cover an altitude of 600m.
Day 4- From Mude Camp to Wagagai Peak (4321 m) and return to Mude
This is one of the most anticipated day on the mountain. We summit. After an early breakfast, we will set off from Mude camp and head for Wagagai. This is the highest point on the mountain. We will enjoy the views of the Moorland zone till we reach the peak. We will enjoy the views at the peak, take some hard earned photos before descending back to Mude camp site. We will relax and enjoy the evening. The day’s hike lasts up to 9 hours and you the altitude will be 820m.
Day 5: From Mude Camp back to Sipi Falls camp
Proceeding breakfast, we will embark on our descent down the mountain. We will depart Mude camp, hike past Sasa river camp till we reach the start of the Hike at Budadiri tourism center. We will then transfer to our lodge in Sipi falls where we will enjoy a well-deserved rest.
Day 6: Sipi Falls exploration Transfer to Jinja.
Sipi falls is a series of waterfalls that feed into each other. On this day of our 7 Days Uganda Elgon mountaineering Safari, we will get a chance to explore the different waterfalls. We will explore the man-made caves behind the waterfalls and enjoy the sprays of the water from the falls. On the last waterfall, we will abseil the 100m waterfall enjoying the views of the lowlands. We will hike back to the lodge for an early lunch before departing for Jinja. On arrival in Jinja, we will check into our lodge and enjoy our evening by the river Nile.
Day 7: Rafting and Transfer to Kampala
On the last day of this 7 Days Uganda Elgon mountaineering Safari, we will have an early breakfast as we prepare to raft down the Nile. After safety briefing by the rafting company, we will raft down the series of rapids on the River. This is one of the most thrilling safari activity Uganda has to offer. You will tossed out of the rafts, just to be pulled back in by the guides for some more. We will enjoy a barbeque at the end of the rafting trip and we will then return to Kampala. The guide will drop you at your hotel of the airport. This will mark the end of your 7 Days Uganda Elgon mountaineering Safari.
You will have an early morning breakfast and then transfer to Bujagali waterfalls for white water rafting.
You will then take part in the rafting which gives a deep feeling of how Uganda is surely gifted by nature. In the afternoon, you will transfer back to Kampala marking the end of the trip.
