8 day gorilla and wildlife safari detailed itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Lake Mburo
Well rested from your travels, our guide will pick you from your hotel early in the morning. In order to avoid Kampala Traffic, we will have an early start. Heading for Lake Mburo, we will stop at the equator for breakfast, some pictures and hemispheric experiments. Proceed to Lake Mburo and check into our lodge. After some relaxation and early lunch, we will head out for the afternoon boat cruise.
Driving through the park, we will be able to spot amazing wildlife like zebra, impala, topi, giraffes and much more. The boat cruise is launched on Lake Mburo and offers relaxing yet thrilling sights of buffalo, crocodiles, hippos and bird species. This boat cruise will last up to 2 hours. We will then do a game drive as we head back to the lodge. At the lodge, we shall relax and enjoy our evening on this Uganda gorilla and wildlife safari.
Day 2: Nature walk/horse safari and transfer to Bwindi
Depending on your preference, we shall either do a nature walk in the park or a horse safari or a game drive. Nature walks and horse safaris bring us ever closer to the wildlife in the park. After this horse safari/nature walk, we shall check out of the lodge and head for Bwindi impenetrable national park. The Scenic drive through the Kigezi highlands is spectacular. The terraced hills offer amazing views. On arrival, we will check into the lodge and enjoy the sights and views of the forests.
Day 3: Gorilla trekking and cultural tour
We shall wake up to a healthy and warm breakfast before our gorilla trekking. Heading to the park headquarters, we shall enjoy some traditional entertainment before being briefed on gorilla trekking. We shall then be grouped into teams of 8 to trek each gorilla family. Then off we go. Trekking through the lush green forest, we will be guided by rangers who will lead us to the gorillas. On making contact, we will have time to observe them in their natural habitat. Take as many pictures and videos as we you want. Ask the rangers any questions as you may have. You are allowed an hour with the gorillas. After gorilla trekking, we will return to the lodge and relax for our evening cultural tour.
This cultural tour will lead us into the local communities to visit the Batwa people. These were the original forest dwellers of the forest. On this cultural tour, we will get to experience their life style through their stories, music, dance and food. After the tour, we will retire to the lodge for the evening.
Day 4: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park
We will depart Bwindi national park for Queen Elizabeth national park. The scenic views of the escarpments and tea plantations show case the beauty of Uganda. Driving through the Ishasha sector will give us a chance of spotting the famous tree climbing lions. On arrival, we will check into the lodge and enjoy our lunch.
Later in the evening, we will embark on an evening game drive. This is done in the Kasenyi sector. Here, we hope to see amazing wildlife like elephants, lions, leopards, hyenas, buffalo, water bucks, kobs, hippos and many more. This game drive will last up to 4 hours after which, we will retire to the lodge for the night.
Day 5: Morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise.
No day is the same on the African savanna plains. On this morning game drive, we hope to see more wildlife and some we may have missed the previous day. More to that, we will take our time enjoying the wilderness. After the game drive, we will have an early lunch as we prepare for the afternoon boat cruise.
The boat cruise in Queen Elizabeth national park takes place on the Kazinga channel. As the wildlife come to quench their thirst, we will have front rows sits. Elephants, hippos, crocodiles, antelopes and plenty of birds can be seen on this afternoon boat cruise on the Kazinga channel. Relax and enjoy this awesome cruise.
Day 6: Morning crater drive and transfer to Kibale forest national park.
After checking out of our lodge, we will head out for another section of Queen Elizabeth national park for a crater drive. Due to volcanic activity, crater lakes were formed and these crater lakes offer spectacular views and amazing photography opportunities. After the crater drive, we will continue through Kasese town towards Fort portal. This drive offers amazing views of the Rwenzori Mountains. On arrival on Fort portal, we will have a chance to visit the caves locally known as “Amabere ga Nyina Mwiru”. These caves are iconic and show case the heritage of the local Batoro culture. We will check into our lodge for the evening.
Day 7: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi sanctuary walk
On this day of this 8 day gorilla and wildlife safari, we will have an early breakfast as we prepare for chimpanzee trekking. This is done in the tropical forest of Kibale. After a briefing at the headquarters, we will venture into the tropical forest in search of these primates. Since these primates share 97% of their DNA with humans, their behaviors are human like. Using sticks to lure ants out of their anthills is truly fascinating. Other primates that can be seen on this chimpanzee trekking include; white and black colobus monkeys, grey checked mangabeys, red tailed monkeys and vervet monkeys. We will return to the lodge after the chimpanzee trekking.
Later in the evening, we will take a walk to the Bigodi wetland sanctuary. Here, there’s plenty of bird species including the rare blue turaco and there are chances of seeing more primates. We will retire to the lodge for the evening.
Day 8: Transfer to Kampala.
On the last day of our 8 day gorilla and wildlife safari, we will have a lazy morning as we prepare to depart for Kampala. The scenic drive offers views of tea plantations and papyrus swamps. We will have lunch in Mubende before proceeding to Kampala. On arrival, the guide will drop you at your hotel, residence or airport. This will mark the end of your 8 day gorilla and wildlife safari.
